Errors - 5

Everytime I run a scan on my Mac, all it says is "items remaining: 0, theats: 0, errors: 4."  Why doesn't Sophos ever fix these errors?  And today, I noticed that my mac was running particularly slow, and I scanned it, and my error count is up to 5.  What does Sophos do after a scan if it doesn't fix the things that are wrong with the computer?

Thanks.

  • Hi Jordan123

The reason that Sophos doesn't fix these errors is because the error usually means that Sophos was unable to scan the file (e.g. it was corrupted).   As such, they are not classifed as malicious and Sophos can not just remove them.

Have you looked in the log to check the reason for the error and to see what files are involved?  You can then decide to either remove them manually or submit them to Sophos for investigation.

There is a Knowledge Base Article that describes how to submit files for investigation:

    Trust this helps.

  • I found that scan errors are usually not corrupted files, but encrypted files like Excel-Spreadsheets with a password or Adobe PDF-Files with enabled rights management.

If this is the case, there is no reason to submit them to Sophos - they are not allowed to break the encryption, and thus can not scan the files for malicious content.

    Best regards,
