Insufficient Rights and Sophos

I caused the problem myself, I know it, but I would appreciate any advice to fix it.

I installed Sophos using one user account, I then at some point decided to rename the account. Rather than renaming, as the computer was new with no data, the easy alternative was to create a new account, log off from the old account, log on to the new account, then delete the old account.

The result is the account I installed Sophos with has been deleted, and using the new account I get a lot of "insufficient privleges" messages. So I decided to uninstall Sophos, and reinstall it using the new (and permanent) account.

You guessed it, I have "insufficient privleges" to uninstall Sophos. So, I have a flawed version of Sophos, and no way to remove it.

Can anyone shed some light on how I can rectify this problem?

Many thanks in advance......

  • Hi David,

putting the account you're using now into the local Sophos Administrators group should do the trick. It looks like your new account ist not a member of any Sophos group on your client - therefore you can't neither open the SAV GUI nor uninstall Sophos Anti-Virus.

    Cheers,
