Customer Issues - WAN Related?

I have a client running Enterprise Console 4.0.0.2362, client versions  7.6.x. Their operations are geograpically widespread (worldwide), many at fractional T1 (256K, etc.).

They have three main problems:

1. The Envelopes folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router seems to fill up reliably & far too often. What steps can be taken to remediate this issue?

2. The Sophos management personnel claim that the Dashboard information is unreliable. For example, new definitions may roll out to clients in a time zone earlier than the management console. They appear as errors.

3. Because of primarily bandwidth issues, there are a lot of "Could not find a source for AutoUpdate" or "Download of Sophos AutoUpdate failed....." errors. Once again, any relief for this?

Thanks in advance.

  • And one more issue - clients appear in the console list with errors/alerts, but the "Resolve...." option shows nothing (or nothing relevant) in the log.

  • Hello,

    1. The Envelopes folder ... seems to fill up

This is usually caused by poor connectivity, packet loss etc. (see Enterprise Console: packet loss causing problems with RMS). It might help to tweak some setting using the registry - haven't done this and I'd suggest you contact support

    2. ... new definitions may roll out to clients in a time zone earlier than the management console. They appear as errors.

Since I haven't heard of this before I'd assume that the timestamps are UTC internally. I could run some tests but not right now.

    3. Because of primarily bandwidth issues, there are a lot of "Could not find a source for AutoUpdate" ... errors.

Sophos is not the only product which will suffer from slow connections. There are a number of options to improve performance but it depends on the topology (number of locations, number of clients, link speeds and so on).
