Correct Method to update SEC 2.0 to 4.5

Hello all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. First of all, as the title says I need to upgrade sophos enterprise console from V2.0 to V4.5 while keeping in mind, I need to keep current configuration, settings and computers.

Summary

OS: Windows Server 2003

Current SEC: 2.0

Latest SEC : 4.5

The upgrade advisor gives me the following(CSV):

Upgradeable Enterprise Console,Upgrade can only be performed from Enterprise Console version 3.0 or later.,Critical
SQL server compatibility,The SQL server used is no longer supported. The upgrade will involve upgrading the SQL server.,Warning

Can I upgrade to SEC v3.0 then update to v4.5? or will I have to backup as much settings as possible, uninstall and install 4.5?

Any information will be appreciated.

Actually you have to hop through v4.0 as well so the route is: SECv2.0 > SECv3.x > SECv4.0 > SECv4.5

You have two options...

Option One:

If your network is quite small and you decide the existing set of policies in the console wouldn't be that much work you can remove v2 and just download v4.5, as described in the upgrade mini site at: http://www.sophos.com/support/upgrades/.

Option Two:

You have a medium to large network and/ or the policies would be too much to manually recreate. In this case you should hop through all the versions to preserve your data. Start off with:

v3 installer: https://secure.sophos.com/support/updates/dp/full/ es31sfx.exe

Then use http://www.sophos.com/support/upgrades/ as the best source of information on how to continue up to version 4.5.

Make sure you back up the vital bits of the Sophos Management server before you begin...

Regarding the "multiple network adapters" warning see...

Enterprise Console: all computers appear as unmanaged on a server with multiple network adaptors

Hello Deltanet,

take your time, read the docs carefully and if in doubt please do not hesitate ask. As you are running EM Library don't forget to back this up too. For further reading: Enterprise Console: upgrading to the latest version ... (mentions SEC2->SEC3 upgrade) and also Exporting and importing library settings

This has been specifically made to assist with the upgrade and check that your system meets all the pre-requisites.
This page is also updated on a regular basis to provide the latest download links, videos showing the process, the new features and general troubleshooting help.
