Unknown OS

Hello,

I have been fighting this Unknown Operating System for a few hours now.  I upgraded to SEC 4.0.0.2362.  All my old workstations are doing great.  Updating and everything.  We have a newly installed PC, with and admin account and all.  When I try to protect it I get the Account has insufficient rights or simple file sharing is on.  The account has Admin rights and Simple File Sharing is turned off.  Does anybody have any ideas as to why this would be happening?

Thanks a ton,

Troy

  • Hi Torg,

    Things to check:

    1) Can you connect to \\hostname\C$

    2) Can you connect to \\hostname\Admin$\Tasks

If so, can you create a remote scheduled task and does it execute ?

    3) If Windows Firewall is enabled, does disabling it make any difference ?

    4) Are you protecting it with the correct format: domain\user

    5) Check services are running:

    - Computer Browser
    - Workstation
    - Remote Registry
    - Task Scheduler

    6) When you protect the machine monitor the windows\tasks folder (keep refreshing)

    Does a sophos_inst task get created ?

If so, does it run ?

Check the account details it is running as.

Check for any errors in the Task Scheduler log (advanced, view log)

Otherwise, you can always install manually.

    - Check the bootstrap location via the Enterprise Console

    - Run the install e.g.
    \\server\sophosupdate\cids\S***\SAVSCFXP\setup.exe

  • Thanks, that totally helped.  Turns out my client had created the wrong credentials.   Also, in this case, Dell had a thrid party security software paqckage that also prevented access.  The removal of the Dell Security Suit along with correcting the credentials appears to have done the trick.

    Thanks again,

    Troy
