Sophos for VMs not recognized by Windows Defender?

I use a Windows 2016 terminal server on a daily basis but this morning I got an alert telling me that Windows Defender needs to scan it. I built this VM a few weeks ago and immediately installed Sophos for Virtual Environments. This is the first time I've received this alert, however. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

  • Hi Gary,

Am afraid this is not an issue with Sophos AV, as the Windows Defender is not detecting the Sophos on VMs I request you to check with Microsoft as they may have a solution.

  • This is not consistent with the behavior of the full client on desktops or servers. When that is installed, Windows Defender is turned off. Nowhere in the installation document or the Sophos Central online help does it say we should be turning off Windows Defender manually to install the VM agent. Also, this is not an issue on any version of Windows Server prior to 2016.
