Slow file upload times

Hi,

We have been testing Sophos Central over the past few weeks, an issue we have noticed recently has been the upload times for large files. For example, a 1gb file took an approximated time of ~50 minutes to upload to dropbox. I tested this same scenario with Sophos uninstalled, and the same process took only 9 minutes. Is there a solution to this? Are we required to turn off real time scanning? Or is there a different policy that affects file uploads.

  • Hi,

What operating systems are affected?  Windows 7 and Windows 10 for example?  The reason I ask is that web protection is implemented very differently on each.

Out if interest, on a computer where you can reproduce the problem,  If you change/may need to create:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters
    DWORD
    DefaultSendWindow
to say 1024000 (dec) and reboot and retry, is it quicker?

    Regards,

    Jak

  • Our environment is primarily Windows 7, I can test on 10 as well and provide an answer.

  • I can confirm that adding that registry key made a significant difference in the upload speeds for files (on Windows 7). Is there a reason behind why this is needed for files to be uploaded in an expected timeframe with Sophos installed? But with Sophos uninstalled, and without this change, I can upload files in the same time? The 1gb folder upload went from taking an hour to 10 minutes with the change, similar to how long it takes with Sophos not on the machine.

    Thanks!
