The issue to me feels like there is still an old Registry Key in place that is in turn causing the issue. 

What version of the product did you have installed prior to the removal?

I think it was at least 5.0

I have been through the registry for all Sophos entries, would it come up under another name, or should I search for something other than Sophos?

Can you please check the following locations for any Sophos keys (64 bit and 32bit): 

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{PRODUCT GUID}
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{PRODUCT GUID} 

Let me know what you find?

hi Tom, Just been re checking those locations. there are no Sophos entries.

Have managed to resolve the issue.

There was a registry setting left over from the Sophos Management Console

Deleting

HKCR\Installer\UpgradeCodes\CA98E20DB72FAFB43872EB89F028C137

Has resolved the issue.

Also the GUID maybe reversed

i.e - {2C7A82DB-69BC-4198-AC26-BB862F1BE4D0} which appear as - BD28A7C2CB968914CA62BB68F2B14E0D

Also keys within - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products - can sometimes cause an issue.
