Can you let me know what operating system you're trying to install on?
Sophos Clean has been removed from more recent versions of Sophos Endpoint. I suggest checking if the device in question is updating correctly, or if you have Controlled Updating/Software Packages enabled and or specified to an older release package.
Information on product architecture changes made some time ago can be found below.

Note: The Sophos Clean and Sophos Safestore services are present and set to Automatic but are stopped by default. These settings should not be changed.
Both of these services are removed in the Core Agent 2022.1.0.78 release for Windows 10 (x64) and above, and Windows Server 2016 and above.

Was a new installer package downloaded from Sophos Central, or are you using an older SophosSetup.exe file?

If Sophos was previously installed on this device, I'd suggest also trying to use Sophos Zap on the device prior to re-trying the installation.
Update: After Sophos Zap was used, the installation was completed successfully with no further issues.
