My product was new when Windows 7 was current; and I have to keep it running. Since November 14 updating has failed. The message in the log says "your OS is not support by the product." The product came with the virus removal service of some office store chain, a service I did not renew. Is it still worthwhile for me to run this; or will this problem of failing to update remain permanent?

The errors you’re seeing have to do with the end of support for Windows 7 machines running Sophos AV managed from the "Sophos Enterprise Console". This is the solution that Staples is known to have deployed out on customer devices.

The updating errors you’re seeing won’t go away. If you’re looking for a free AV solution to install on your device, I recommend trying out Sophos Home. It looks like Windows 7 is still supported for Sophos Home as well.

It does not look like the Sophos Home agent can control the Windows Firewall settings.
- Sophos Home features
There are some Intrusion Prevention System features that have recently been added to the enterprise/business version of Sophos Antivirus, which might make their way to the Sophos Home agent in the future. This will perform a similar level of filtering as the Firewall feature you're looking for.
