M1 + Big Sur + Endpoint = no Internet

A user's M1 Apple, running Big Sur, was suddenly unable to reach any website starting a couple of days ago. No browser worked; Chrome informed him every time that "Your connection to this site is not secure" and the page timed out. Troubleshooting with Apple, I found that any website could be reached while booted into Safe Mode--i.e., without any third-party software loading at startup. By process of elimination, I found that uninstalling Sophos Endpoint returned full access to all websites.

Endpoint has had a rough start with Big Sur, and it seems the problems aren't over yet. (The latest update is supposed to run natively on M1.) Just thought someone ought to know.

  • Thanks for your quick response. At this point I've uninstalled Sophos Endpoint from the user's computer, and I'm not certain when he'll be willing to have me reinstall it, even on a trial basis. I'll make a point of recommending it to him. Thanks again.
