Event ID 8001: The Sophos Management Communications System client service has received an HTTP status 503 from the server. This might indicate that action is necessary.

Hi everyone,

We have this error:

Endpoint Version is latest 2.0.2

Event ID 8001: The Sophos Management Communications System client service has received an HTTP status 503 from the server. This might indicate that action is necessary.

I have exact same probleme here as mentionned in this group Endpoint Security. Anyone have figured out why this happening and how to solve this?

Thanks.

  • Hi Everyone,

I am having the same error as well, what does this mean and what do one have to do to clear this up

  • Just to let you know. Nobody answer or even suggest something about this event. The Sophos community isn't the greatest I've seen.

I think this error can be ignored. Probably not a bug, but a feature -_-

  • Hello

To add to what  wrote, this message isn't necessarily an issue and would come up if the client is not able to communicate to Sophos after the set time limit. If the client is eventually able to connect to Sophos then it could have been some temporary network connectivity issue. If this appears to be widespread or lasts a continuous amount of time, it will be worth checking to see if Sophos Central is experiencing an outage from the link below:

  • Dear All,

We have this error since few weeks

-> I see this error on our Client and servers, If this is due to network disruption then its cannot be true as its very often as we see this on clients which are on our LAN systems too.

-> Lately number of clients reporting to our central with below status has increased suddenly.

    Any inputs?

504 is a gateway timeout error. This means that there is an issue with the networking.

Check the MCS Client log - are you getting consistent 504 errors or sporadic ones? If every communication is resulting in 504 - then we would have to enable MCS message trails to see what is being transmitted. If you are seeing some 200 and some 504 in a rolling pattern, then that is a different type of issue.

Please advise what you see in C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Management Communications System\Endpoint\Logs\MCSClient.log
