I would like to request that Enterprise Console be made cross-platform and able to work with database engines of various vendors.
This can be achieved using a cross-platform framework such as Digia's Qt (http://www.qt.io/) which features an RDBMS-agnostic SQL module with drivers for every major SQL engine (http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/sql-driver.html) and extensive documentation (http://doc.qt.io/)
Doing this would provide a number of important benefits:
- Greatly reduces system resources needed just for Sophos management (MS SQL and Windows require far greater system and personnel resources than almost any other solution.)
- Allows Mac and Linux shops to manage their Sophos infrastructure in their preferred environments
- Allows system administrators to use whatever database system they already use for Sophos as well, instead of having to install and maintain an instance of MS SQL when they otherwise wouldn't.
- Reduces licensing costs as non-Windows shops would no longer require Windows licenses.
- Gives Sophos a large competitive advantage as no other major security/protection software vendor yet offers cross-platform management.
Thank you very much for your time and please let me know what management & development think of this solution.
