Best Way to Add Exceptions

I need to exclude a folder and all the sub directories in SEC.

What is the correct way?

C:\program files\stuff

or

C:\program files\stuff\

or

C:\program files\stuff\*

  • Hello Navar Holmes,

[note: your post is a technical question, not about the community, and there exists a Sophos Enterprise Console forum which seems to be the ideal place ... [:)]]

arguably the best way is to not add exceptions (actually they're called exclusions for obvious reasons) [:P]. I always ask, why do you (think you) need? Any issues, confirmed performance degradation, or just a vendor's "recommendation"? AV scanning isn't an end in itself and exclusions shouldn't be applied lightly.
Anyway, the Console Help is IMO quite clear on this subject both on the use of the backslash (the GUI provides assistance) and the semantics of the asterisk. Your first example excludes the file stuff in the given path, your third any file without extension in ...\stuff\.
