Sophos Full Scan stops abnormally

The full scan function is stopping 4/5ths of the way through the scan with the message "Full Scan stopped abnormally and was not completed." This has happened 3 times. I am running version 1.2.0 for Mac on OS X 10.11.6 I'm in the process of upgrading to Sierra now. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this?
