Viruses and malware

Hello, was getting interested in Sophos and just read this:

Just interesting to note that there really have been no actual "viruses" accounted for,

and that people apparently won't understand the term "malware".

Call me skeptical I guess...

unfortunately, I'm not too program savvy. what's the difference between a virus, malware and spyware.? All I know that they are all bad.

Well, I have to admit, that I am really not sure about the meaning of the word "malware". But I am here to learn.

Our official deffinition of Malware is
"Malware is a general term for malicious software including viruses,
worms, Trojan horses and spyware. Many people use the terms
malware and viruses interchangeably. "
