Hello Sophos.
My name is Ram9 - I am in instructor in the Civil Hacking School.
I would like to draw your attention to your interesting document
"SOPHOS-A-Z-Computer and Data Security Threats "
On page 4 of 120 - Sep 11, 2009 2:51 AM
"More commonly, though, viruses don’’’’t cause any apparent damage or announce their presence at all. Instead, a virus might silently install a keystroke logger, which waits until the victim visits a banking website and then records the user’’’’s account details and password, and forwards them to a hacker via the Internet. The hacker is an identity thief – using these
details to clone credit cards or plunder bank accounts. The victim isn’’’’t even aware that the computer has been infected. Once the virus has done its job, it may delete itself altogether to avoid detection."
I compassionatly request that you please alter this document to avoid continuing to spread mis-information about the hacker sub-culture.
I enjoy your products and so am doubly disapointed that a company of such esteem and position in the business community would declare that 'The hacker is an identitiy theif'.
I suggest using the word 'criminal' and perhaps using the phrase 'this criminal'. The hacker is not an Identiity theif - and even if 'this hacker' was an identity theif - it is a a dis-service to declare all hackers 'identity theives'.
Please consider that your position of respect and esteem and as a forensics and data security company - you have the capacity to seriously defeat the efforts that many dedicated hackers have spent in undoing the gross misconceptions of the mass media and entertainment industry.
Thank you.
Ram9
