hi all

Anyone else had issues with "ZoomInfoContactContributor "    this is a product that will upload your corporate address book to a 3rd person  (Eg to ZoomInfo)

Do you think this is an example of what a PUA should be....    Would you like it on your corporate network...

Sophos Thinks it is OK as it has a eula

Be good to see what others think..

I know this is not wanted on our Network and we have blocked it.   We only stumbled accross it when we were going through our logs doing an audit.   Just share Luck.

  • Hello RebootNZ,

from reading the description on their site I'd say this is something I'd not really like. If I understand correctly they collect not only ("live") information about the subscriber but also about his contacts. While they claim to generally use only publicly available information this is an exception. I'm not a lawyer but the combination of removal of "your" profile on request and their T&C seems to keep them on the "legal" side. With their T&C they seem to be able to "legally" shift the responsibility to the "contributor" - assume your contacts include the otherwise undisclosed phone number of a customer - according to the T&C it is you who provided it to ZoomInfo and you are responsible if this violates a law. Again - I'm not a lawyer so IMO this construct seems somewhat unethical, but if it holds - and I expect it to - it's you who might get in trouble.

Now to PUA: The distinction of PUA and Controlled Application is more than somewhat fuzzy. I'd say it qualifies at least as an application you'd like to control. What was your request to Sophos (PUA?) and what did they reply (I don't think it is classified)? Did you try to submit it as Controlled Application?
