Board changes

Would be nice if there was some way that I could see if I'd be responding to a thread that is a day or a year old.  Also, I'd like to see the option of allowing people to contact me directly with comments, answers, etc.

    some way that I could see if I'd be responding to a thread that is a day or a year old

    excuse me being dense - doesn't the date shown for the posts serve this purpose? If you go to My settings -> Preferences -> [from Display to Home page] you can to a certain extent control the forum's and boards' layout (BTW - you can also you relative dates but they work only one month in the past, older posts display with their absolute date).

    allowing people to contact me directly

    Still in Preferences, you can turn this on under Private Messenger. As the default is OFF people probably won't try to send you a PM unless you ask for it in your post (using Privacy you can publish your email address to all or select people). You access the Private Messenger through the tiny envelope on the upper right (just below the Search button).
