XG Home Access Point

Hi All,

i am planning to put the XG home in my home network, with the announcements of the eol for the access points for end of March will this also apply to XG home?

is it possible to procure the apx access points for a home environment especially with the family using smart phones and tablets I can’t put the XG on at home till I can sort the wireless.

what have others done in the home environment?

  • XG is a fairly new product and is nowhere near EOL.  If anything, UTM would be EOL well before XG ever gets to that point and UTM has no EOL currently.

Access point EOL has nothing to do with XG/UTM.  It has to do specifically with what product is listed as EOL.

Yes, you can purchase APX access points, I've purchased two (one just two days ago) from a reseller for my home (using UTM).

  • Thank you for your response.  Sorry my question wasn’t articulated well.  My questions was not about the end of life for XG Home but the access points like AP15 or AP30, AP55 or AP100.  Would these access points still work on XG Home as they have been eol.  I didn’t know if that applied to just the commercial version of XG or for home as well.

There are plenty of access points ap series on eBay which are probably more reasonable in cost than an apx access point.

I was looking for the clarity around that and if anyone knows if the ap series access points will still work with XG home.

If these won’t work than if somebody can recommend a Sophos re-seller who would sell apx for home users in the uk.

    thanks

  • Yes they still work.  EoL is just really meaning there is no longer support for them, but that won't stop them from functioning.  I've used AP30s after EoL on XG and UTM.  They work fine until they die.

  • Sorry the reason why I was asking because this link says otherwise

    https://community.sophos.com/sophoswireless/f/discussions/117957/end-of-life-ap-series-indoor-access-points

according to this it would stop working but I didn’t know if that applied to XG Home ?

  • And under that same link, a Sophos staff member linked the EOL announcement with specific details.  Within that:

    After this date the product:

    • will not receive any new features
    • will receive only critical security patches and bug fixes but only until March 31, 2021
    • Will not be supported by any new hardware models released after this date

Your access point will continue to operate as normal.

  • Thank you very much for your help I didn’t want to invest in the ap if it wasn’t going to work I cant believe I missed that you’ve been really helpful and patient with my persistent questions

  • Sure thing!  It's kind of a bad time to EOL this stuff too, as the chip shortage affects shipments.  I'm waiting on an APX120 to ship but have to wait at least another month before I even have a chance to get it and I need it for a MESH network.  Weary
