Re-activate sophos on machine that has been inactive for more than three months

Hi

I wanted to reduce the active machines under my licence so I removed the tamper proof and deleted the machine from my Sophos central.  I did not delete sophos from the machine as I knew I would re-activate in the future.

the machine as been de-activated for over three months and now it will not re-connect with my Sophos central. I also cannot remove/re-install Sophos as the machine says that tamper proof need s to be removed.

how do I get it re-connected to Sophos central to monitor it?

    On your Sophos central, you can check on logs and reports then look for recover tamper protection. Search for the device hostname and see if it was still present. If it is? Use the tamper protection password and try to manually unlock the TP on the target machine then you can proceed on running Sophosexe via command line with a string of --registeronly to re-register the machines on your central dashboard. If no? then a manual removal of TP needs to be done by following this KB Article.

    thank you, unfortunately in my Sophos Central the "recover Tamper Protection" report appears to only be for the servers.  I can find the device when looking under "Users" and inactive devices", but it does not provide any tamper proof information?

  • Hi Mark,

    It appears that to re-register those devices, you need to follow the manual removal of tamper protection on each system. Follow the Article provided on how to turn off tamper protection. After that, download the latest installer, then run it via registry using the "--registeronly" switch to re-register the machines.
