Sophos asking my user password

I'm using Sophos Antivirus (Home Edition version 9.2.7) on my iMac. Why is it asking for my user password when I'm about to scan a file? Is this a normal thing?

    Hi Michael,

    I'm guessing you're trying to right click > Scan with Sophos, and your user account doesn't have admin rights. If that's the case, this is normal. If you do this with an account that has admin rights, you wouldn't be prompted for your password.
