Configure Sophos Virtual Appliance with Exchange 2010

Hello Experts,

I am in need of guidance on how to get Sophos virtual email appliance to work with Exchange 2010. I have never installed an email security appliance before and currently, we are relying on MS Forefront Protection for Exchange for our email secuirty.

I've already created the VM. I just need to know how do I place it in the email flow. Right now, this is all we have,

Inbound: Internet > Firewall > Exchange > Clients

Outbound: Clients > Exchange > Firewall > Internet

We have Outlook and ActiveSync clients. How do I configure my network to route to the appliance? What do I have to do with Exchange?

Thank you very much. Any help is truly appreciated.

Randy

  • the most common configuration would probably be something like..

    A record > firewall > email appliance > exchange > users

    Under the routing tab

Mail delivery server would be set to exchange.. (if you have more then one you can make a group and set the weights)

mail domain, is the domain you accept mail for

internal mail hosts would be IP that are allowed to relay mail through the appliance.

other then that set up the networking info, directory services (make sure your query string produces the correct results) then select your recipient validation under smtp options to via directory services.. that will give you a basic set up the rest can be tailored to suite in terms of rules & policy.

    ps:

if you wish to use outbound content inspection/batv, or spx email encryption and similar features outbound mail should be delivered by the appliance..

users > exchange > email appliance  > internet
