Web Appliance not properly reporting youtube bandwidth used

I have set up a Virtual Web Appliance and integrated with Active Directory.  I am using Sophos endpoint protection and with the Enterprise console I have set the "Endpoint Web Control" which then I can use my Sophos Enterprise Console to enable monitoring for selected computers based on their membership in AD containers with the Web Control policy enabled.

I assume that doing this will block wrongful activity AS WELL AS monitor and report their activity. It seems this is working as intended, but, a test a user went to Youtube and watched a high definition video. The reports show she visited youtube for a period of time, but the bandwidth used shows that she only used 686 bytes of data while on youtube.com.

How do I make it show how much bandwidth she used watching the video so that under the report "Top Bandwidth Users" she is shown having used a great amount of data watching the YouTube video?

PS> The web appliance is set up as "Explicit Proxy" under "Deployment Mode"

  • Hi EmanResu, thank you for the reply. That was a week ago when she did the youtube test, and I have just re-ran the report "Top Bandwidth Users". As there have been only 3 test users so far, she is included on this report. It shows that, even though I watched her view a HD video on youtube for a few minutes, she only used 581KB total for the last 9 days. For some reason it is not tracking her bandwidth usage properly.

We would like to see when users go to streaming sites like Youtube or Pandora and see how much bandwidth they consumed and how long they spent streaming.
