Hi Everyone,

                   I would like to test our gateway solution to see if it can detect an eicar.com or savtst32.exe  embedded inside an excel spreadsheet. Does anyone know if eicar.com can be used for this type of a test,  I have tried to test this but its not being detected.

    Hello Paul,

    this likely won't work, although I'm not sure what you mean by embedded? Note that the test-string is not a static string which is scanned for (i.e. the scanner doesn't look for this pattern, that would be cheating) but in fact a DOS executable (just define an exclusion for it and run it in a CMD window :smileyhappy:).

    What exactly is it that you want to test? If your gateway solution will detect malicious spreadsheets?
