Web appliance reporting - IP to hostname?

We're just testing out the virtual web appliance in our lab. I don't think we want to go for AD authentication but IP address reporting isn't that helpful easier. Is it possible for the web appliance to resolve DNS names? We have it using our AD DNS server with reverse lookup enabled but can't find anyway to do it. Thanks

  • HI Paulage,

Currently there is no way to do a reverse lookup on the clients IP and place the hostname in the reports.  What is your hesitation for using AD Authenication?

  • Honestly I would like to keep things as simple as possible.

One problem I've run into after allowing AD authentication is that I get a NTLM username/password prompts when I browse any sites from a Linux (Ubuntu) computer. I can leave the username/password blank and it click through and it works but it's not seamless for end users. This is after enabling AD authentication and if that fails fallback to IP address (no captive portal used).

  • Hi Paulage,

You can create a Connection Profile for Linux OSes and create a sperate Authenication Profile for them to bypass authenication all together.  Then your reporting will display Windows machines by users and Linux machines will be by IP address.  Alternatively, you can have Linux users use the Captive Portal if you want a user name to display for those machines.
