PureMessage for Domino local update.

Hello there.

We have such infrastructure:

One enterprise console is located in DMZ and download updates from sophos internet site.

Another enterprise console is located in LAN (LAN has NO access to internet) and download updates from first Console.

Clients (endpoint security and control 10.2) download updates from second console. That's works fine.

Now i installed Sophos PureMessage for domino (without antispam) on the server with domino 8.5.3.4.

And i can`t understand how to make that puremessage to download updates from second console (in LAN).

I can't find where i can specify source to update. :(

  • Furthermore. In documentation I could not find about how to update puremessage for Domino!

  • Hi Deepdig,

Is the enterprise console for the endpoint update ? If that so, than I do not think you could update any puremessage from that location.

I have no experience on Pure Message for Domino, but ido have installed pure message for exchange, and it required a different  update policy.

On the endpoint that you install on the  Puremessage server, its need to update direcly to sophos.

Here's a link to startup guide for PureMessage fo Domino, on the page 13 you can check how to set the update if you need to use a  proxy .

  • Hello Deepdig,

I have (almost) no knowledge of PureMessage, let alone PM for LD thus I did initially not reply. As the issue doesn't seem clear I chime in with my two cents. I'm pretty sure the following applies:

SAV updates are managed by SEC if you have installed SAV/SESC like on other endpoints (the recommended way briefly mentioned

SAV updates are configured with the local SESC GUI if you installed the stand alone version

Anti-Spam (which you do not use as you've said) can only be updated from Sophos but it can be a proxy connection (frankly, an anti-spam mail gateway without at least an indirect Internet connection would be somewhat bizarre :smileywink:).

  • Hello. Thanks for answers. :)

    So:

I have PM version 4.5, we don`t use antispam and i can`t use proxy on the server with PM for domino.

Are you actually asking about how to update Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV) on endpoints? And about using the console to do this?

No, i asking about how to update PureMessage for Domino using the console. I can not understand HOW PM for LD updates its antivirus bases. I can not find anything about this in documentation and in PM`s configuration.

I have an idea, that PM for LD uses AV-bases from SAV, installed on the same server, because when i tried to install PM on the server without SAV, PM said to me: "You must install SAV on this server at first."

But i don`t know how to check this idea - in PM i did not  find any place to see version of AV-bases.

I got lost in broad daylight. :(

  • Hello deepdig,

PM interfaces with the Sophos AV installation (in principle others as well) for scanning - i.e. it "asks" it to scan certain objects and (after potentially acting on them) return the result ("hey, scanner - do you think this file is clean?"). Otherwise it does not manage the AV. In other words, PM does not use any AV data or care for updating them as it does not scan itself.

Thus you see the details of the AV in the SESC GUI (where you also would configure updating for an unmanaged install).

  • Hi deepdig,

Reading through the thread - I understand your question to be:

"Can I check that the Sophos engine is up to date (in other words, that the latest detection patterns are installed) from within PureMessage for Lotus Domino?'

The answer is no, this is not exposed within PureMessage for Lotus Domino. PureMessage interfaces with the Sophos engine using the Sophos Anti-Virus Interface (SAVI) http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/118643.aspx to connect to the local Sophos Anti-Virus installation. To check that the Sophos Anti-Virus installation is up to date, use the Computers view within Sophos Enterprise Console. This can also be checked locally, if Sophos Enterprise Console is not used.

If you are asking a slightly different question, then please post with details.

    Regards,

    Reginald
