Clustering Sophos ES1100 over WAN

I've got 2 Sophos ES1100 devices.

One alive and working nicely. One I'd like to put on another site and cluter it's config.

I can see from the documentation I can do clustering internally over port 24, but can I do clustering over the WAN as both devices will be in a separate DMZ and won't communicate internally.

  • Hi Graeme,  Welcome to sophostalk!

If there is no NATing between them (eg. they are both on a public IP) then clustering should work.  Obviously port 24 still needs to be open and DNS resolution needs to work correctly as well.

Will both the appliances be in the MX for the same domain?   Remember that config is shared between the appliances so you might have to make extra considerations - For example, if you want them to use different mail-delivery servers for the same domain.

If you just want to copy the config and don't need the other cluster features then tech support will be able to sort this out for you.

    Cheers,
    Tom.
