Endpoints stopped using Web Appliance

Hey all,

A few weeks back, we deployed a virtual Sophos Web Appliance. Worked great - set up policies, deployed them, and everyone picked up and starting using it automatically.

Fast forward a couple weeks, and suddenly this morning about half of the office is just not using it any longer. The policies haven't changed on our Enterprise Console system, and in fact people that are not using it any long are part of the same group as people that are, and all policies show as up to date. I've rebooted the web appliance, the Enterprise Console system, and the endpoints, but they just will not use it any longer. I've verified that they can reach the web appliance just fine. The systems that still show as connected are working fine. The systems that no longer show connected have full, unfiltered internet access now.

What could cause this to happen? All connectivity, logs, etc look fine. Need to get this resolved ASAP. Where else can I look?

Web appliance is running version 3.9.4 and is fully updated. No exceptions or warnings.

Workstations are primarily Windows 7 Pro, with some Windows 7 home premium, Windows 8, and Windows 2008. All are updating from the Enterprise Console system just fine, some are just not using the web appliance.

  • Hi Phaethar,

If you do an activity search for one of the affected users, does it show it's requests and the action taken by the web filtering?   This could be simple a policy issue.  I would suggest you call or email support to assist you to look at the logs to see what is happening to the "unfiltered" requests.

    Petr.
