Security Certificate errors when visiting https sites

We are running the Web Appliance, v3.7.8.1. as a proxy. When visiting SSL sites we sometimes see 'Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors.' After much troubleshooting I've been able to determine it only happens on Internet Explorer 9 when using the appliance as a proxy. If I switch off my proxy settings and visit SSL sites with IE9 I don't get the message. If I use IE8 with the proxy I don't get the message.

A similar thing has this week started happening with Facebook + IE9 + Web Appliance - just get a partial load of the page. I see someone else has posted a similar issue re FB and was advised to check if other sites loaded by FB are blocked. I've checked this against my own reports on the appliance and get no Blocked results. Again, FB loads fine in IE8 with proxy.

Hopefully someone else is experiencing a similar thing!

Many thanks

  • Think I've resolved it -downloaded the web appliance cert and installed it as a trusted root cert. Should have read the screen more closely!

regarding the facebook prob - changed the https scanning to show URLs and it exposed an akamai site getting blocked.

    Hope this helps someone else.
