PureMessage - Exchange CU7 Update - savexsrvc.exe

Afternoon,

I will be attepting to install Exchange CU7 on our server this evening.

I have run the installer to check the prerequisites pass - but I am being told the savexsrvc.exe still has files open and is preventing the installer going any further.

I tried stopping puremessage in the services list - however they automatically restarted, I also stopped the Sophos AV services along with stopping SMTP & Exchange store scanning within PureMessage, but the savexsrvc.exe was still stopping the installer.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have attached a screenshot, unfortunatley the link given in the installer takes me to a page that states there is no information on this issue :(

Thanks.

  • Hi Alex,

savexsrvc.exe is the Sophos PureMessage service, it will start if it needs to perform a task - such as scanning a message for example. Setting all PureMessage services to the 'Disabled' startup type while applying the update is advised to ensure that files are not held open. Afterwards the services can be set back to 'Automatic'.

Microsoft also advise stopping all Exchange services:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/235978/en-us/

It's possible that stopping the Exchange services may also prevent the PureMessage services from starting if not set to disabled, as this should prevent a message needing to be scanned.

    Reginald
