Sophos Web Control Notifications

I've enabled Web Control inside of our domain, and noticed that all blocked sites produce a notifcation in the toolbar for each computer. In the case of antivirus policy, I'm able to disable messaging, but I can't see a way to do this for Sophos Web Control -- a huge variety of sites produce notifications, and I'm already getting calls from users about them. Is there a way to turn these messages/notifications off as you can in Antivirus or Data Control policy? Thanks!

  • Hello cce27,

AFAIK you can't turn them off.

According to the help these notifications should "only" be displayed for HTTPS - can't say right now how it behaves with in-page requests.

Turning them off would mean that users just see a connection error in the browser for blocked HTTPS site, which could be more of a problem. If they are generate by in-page requests - well, it makes users aware that content from "inappropriate" sites is pulled whenever they visit some assumed innocuous URL.

  • QC,

Thanks for the information. This actually leads directly in to my second question: is there a way to customize the https: block message? I've already gotten a couple of calls asking why these websites aren't popping up, because they don't notice the popup notification on the task bar. I assume the answer is that this can't be customized? Thanks again!
