PureMessage - message_log - r=unknown

Hi everybody,

I'm using PureMessage for Linux 5.6.1 build 2065439 (with Postfix).

Sometimes the relay (r token) doesn't show ant relay information.

Here is an exemple extracted from the message_log :

2011-03-26T15:41:07 q=4D8DFB03_24837_16732_1 f=<mike.mayers@ourdomain.com> t=<YamanNA@yahoo.fr> pmx_reason=OUTCLEAN g=mike.mayers@ourdomain.com|ourdomain SIZE=221103 s=?q?test_subject pmx_action=keep,OUTCLEAN,ourdomain,YamanNA@@yahoo.fr vs fur=10.153.80.2 i r=unknown tm=0.07 a=a/eom

The log extracted from the maillog (postfix) :

Mar 26 15:41:07 uxvepub381a postfix/smtpd[11626]: 673D7FA403A: client=unknown[10.152.100.207]
Mar 26 15:41:07 uxvepub381a postfix/cleanup[11564]: 673D7FA403A: message-id=<9CEEF3CF098E3E46928B600E3A98B3E95A01D0@server1.ourdomain.vh20.net>
Mar 26 15:41:07 uxvepub381a postfix/qmgr[30897]: 673D7FA403A: from=<mike.mayers@ourdomain.com>, size=221103, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Mar 26 15:41:07 uxvepub381a postfix/smtp[10776]: 673D7FA403A: to=<YamanNA@yahoo.fr>, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10025, delay=0.18, delays=0.1/0/0/0.08, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 OK, sent 4D8DFB03_24837_16732_1 8FD36FA42B3)
Mar 26 15:41:07 uxvepub381a postfix/qmgr[30897]: 673D7FA403A: removed

In the maillog, we can see the relay IP address (client=unknown[10.152.100.207]).

Why this IP address doesn't show in the message_log ?

Any of you have some ideas about this issue, and how to solve it ?

Best regards,

Luis

  • Hi Luis,

Usually if you receive the unknown value in the message_log is that postfix is unable to resolve the hostname of the connecting relay.  This is a reverse DNS lookup done by postfix.  Currently there is not a way to parse for the address within the [ ] of the connection.
