Blocked (other) message on Sophos Web Appliance

We are demoing the Sophos Web Appliance for intergration with our current firewall system.  We are using a Palo Alto Networks Firewall that is forwarding all port 80 and 443 traffic (for out test users) over to the Sophos appliance (Virtual Machine) for extra filtering.  Everything for the most part is working great.  But I noticed one issue when trying to watch videos on CNN.com, they don't play.  The Sophos appliance shows the Akamaihd site they pull from as "blocked (other)".   I have all categories set to allow, but it still shows that blocked.  Policy test shows that site as being in the "Computing and Internet" group, so it should be allowed.

Can't seem to find a way to dig deeper to find out exactly why it's blocking it.  I've even tried adding it to the local site list as globally allowed.

Not sure what else to look for.

adding sites as globally allowd onlny means that anyone with an IP can go to that site.. The problem here is that the AV scanner cant scan streaming media.. so modify your local site list entry and change the risk class to trusted.. this will disable the AV scanner and should correct the problem

  • Thanks.  That worked.  But now that makes me wonder how many other video streams will be blocked like this as well.  So far CNN video was the only one I found, but I don't know all the sites our teachers use in their classes.

    Thanks again.
