Blocking e-mail from spoofed users in a different domain

Does anyone know if PureMessage cna be configured to block incoming e-mail from people pretending to be from inside the domain by duplicating the first part of the email address? eg. firstname.lastname@trusteddomain.com is ok while firstname.lastname@hotmail.com is blocked? We've had complaints of people pretending to be another persons manager by sending a request for documentation using their e-mail address except it was from hotmail.com not our domain. Thoughts? Thanks, Rob

  • Hi Rob,

In your policy your should be able to match on Sender's Address and Envelope From. If these match your domain, you could then discard or quarantine the message if indeed no email should be coming from the internet posing as your company.

Do be careful though, I attempted the same thing at my office and learned that we have a group with a seperate ISP connection that *do* send e-mail to us with our own domain name.
