Sophos PureMessage for Lotus Domino Question

I'm looking into PureMessage for Lotus Domino. My question is that my Domino server serves as a combo box (file server, dhcp, dns) as well. This is the setup for our smaller sites and cannot be changed. Currently, we already have an AV product installed (Symantec Endpoint Protection). Will there be any conflicts between PureMessage and SEP?

  • Hello bpohlman,

first of all, you'll have to keep in mind that running two active Anti-Virus applications on one computer could cause conflicts and may result in instability of operating system. And youl'll have to install Sophos (SAV) on your server to run PureMessage for Domino. That means: if Symantec Endpoint Protection allready existing and scanning your Domino Server to protect operating system SAV On-Access needs to be deactivated.

As well you'll have to ensure some folders being excluded from any scanning as well from Symantec (please cf. Chapter 2.6 from http://www.sophos.com/sophos/docs/eng/instguid/pmnd_4_sgeng.pdf).

The SAV installation process checks to see if other Anti-Virus applications are already installed; it is able to detect a number of the products produced by other anti-virus companies. If another Anti-Virus application being detected SAV tries to removes it (if that option being selected) or installation aborts telling that the competitor's applicatioin needs to be removed to install SAV.

There's the following way to install SAV alongside a competitor's Anti-Virus application:

In Windows Registry you may create the key

    HKLM\Software\Sophos\SAVService\SetupOptions\

and therein the string value SuppressCompetitorDetection (REG_SZ type) and a value of 1 to stop the Sophos Competitor Removal Tool from running on deployment.

That results in SAV being installed on a computer with another Anti-Virus application allready present.

There's the following way to install SAV on a computer with On-Access being deactivated:

In Windows Registry you may create the key

    HKLM\Software\Sophos\SAVService\SetupOptions\

and therin the string value DisableOnAccess (REG_SZ type) and a value of 1 to disable on-access scanning.

That results in SAV being installed without On-Access. To enable on-access scanning, set this key to zero.
NB: Please be careful when editing Windows Registry. Please cf. http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/43901.html)

(On the above registry keys please cf. http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/36207.html.)

    Kind regards.
