Sophos WS500 and Adobe FlashPlayer Updates

What is the root cause/issue of not being able to download Adobe FlashPlayer and the Sophos WS500 web appliance?

When downloading to install the Adobe FlashPlayer (version doesn't matter) it will get so far and receive a "Download timeout" error message when it gets around 45% - 50%.  I know it is specifically related to the Sophos web appliance as I can by-pass the web appliance and the download works with no problems.

What is weird is I can check the web filtering reports and there are not any blocked sites or pages associated with the download to cause the timeout error.

I didn't know if others were or have experienced this and are just living with the issue or if this is something that has not been reported or if it is I am in the dark on a known issue with a fix readily available.

Thanks!

  • We had this same issue. Using fiddler to diagnose, I ended up adding fpdownload.macromedia.com to the local site list, and marking the risk as trusted, and tagging it globally allowed.

Flashplayer updates now work on our network. Hope that works for you.
