We have started experiencing performance issues with the Exchange store. Users experience extreme slowness in Outlook (several minutes for things to happen) and the following is found in the event logs:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Performance
Event ID: 510
Information Store (9328) First Storage Group: A request to write to the file "E:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb" at offset 5975040000 (0x000000016423e000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (149 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. In addition, 41 other I/O requests to this file have also taken an abnormally long time to be serviced since the last message regarding this problem was posted 55 seconds ago. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.
I am happy it isn't hardware as other functions of the server do not have any performance problems at all and because
with some investigation I have found that when I stop the Sophos PureMessage services the problem goes away.
