Error installing PureMessage 1628: Failed to complete installation

I am getting an error while trying to install the PureMessage 3.1.0 product on a machine running Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2
installed. It was previously running 3.0.1 but was removed as we uninstalled the older version so we could migrate our database to a different server. The error reads “InstallShield” and “1628: Failed to complete installation.” Reboots do not fix this, and the uninstall seemed to have gone successful, only leaving log files.

The server has Exchange mailboxes on it, but no SQL server.

Another server in the organization was done first, setup the new SQL server databases successfully and the product is installed and working.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi,

That error isn't coming from Puremessage; in fact, it's coming from a conflict between Installshield and the Windows Installer Service.

You can get a bit more information from Installshield's site -- there are additional instructions included there on how to troubleshoot this problem:

    http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108464&sliceId=1

Once you've gone through those steps, please try running the Puremessage install again. If you see any continued errors, I would recommend contacting our support team by either email or phone to continue troubleshooting since it's likely that the install logs would have to be parsed and manual removal instructions forwarded.

    Thank you.
