PMX for Unix: Adding banners (disclaimers) based on multipart Content-Types

Hello,

I have been try to work through a PMX for Unix policy issue with adding banners (or in this case disclaimers) within multipart Content-Types.

What i am trying to achieve is that there will be:

  • A Text based disclaimer for Text based messages (or text subtype)
  • HTML based disclaimer for HTML based messages

Now, appending a disclaimer to Text only based messages with Content-Type: text/plain is easy done.

When the message is a Content-Type: multipart/alternative, there is a way of adding the HTML disclaimer to the text/html subtype boundary (and give a directive to ignore the text/plain subtype). Then do the same for adding a text disclaimer to the text/plain subtype boundary (and give the directive to ignore text/html subtype). This doesnt seem like a great solution, but it works.

But if you have a situation where you have attachments on the message and the message is a Content-Type: multipart/mixed, i just cant find a smart way to append the relevant disclaimers. It the seems that you then either have to contend with the message being a text/plain only message with an attachment, or a multipart/alternative message with text/plain + text/html subtypes boundaries and the attachment.

Has anyone ever delt with this kind of situation before? If so, have you been able to get a solution?

Any Sieve recipes/examples would be much appreciated?

Otherwise, any suggestions? Or am i being too ambitious?

Thanks.
