Installing Sophos Web WS500 in High Availability (HA)

Hello,

My company just bought two(2) Sophos WS500 web appliances to install on the network as a proxy server and wants it to be installed on high availability (HA) mode ie if one goes down, the other will kick in. This is my first time of touching a Sophos web appliance.

Please, can someone assist me with a complete video tutorial or documentation on how to install with the license.

I really need this help as i need to install before end of next week.

Thanks alot

    Awaiting your kind response.

    Thanks

  • We have deployed our two WS5000's and joined them to our management appliance (SM5000)

The WS5000 nodes are configured in explicit mode.

On the management appliance we have configured them in a loadbalancing setup.

The Virtual IP that is configured with loadbalancing is pointing to let's say proxy.example.intern

BUT: during testing we found out that if the SM5000 is down, no communication is possible to that Virtual IP!!

We got around this to also add a second DNS entry let's say app-proxy.example.intern which is a DNS round robin for  both IP-adresses of both WS5000's.

So in our PAC file we have added these 2 DNS entry's in like this:

// DEFAULT RULE: All other traffic, use below proxies, in fail-over order.

    return "PROXY proxy.example.intern:8080; PROXY app-proxy.example.intern:8080";

During testing we saw this was working alright it is not ideal but as close to HA as we wanted.

  • Thanks.

Do you have any documentation/video tutorials i can follow to achieve this.

    Thanks
