UTM as a front end of authentication for not-protected web server.

Is it possible to password-protect a web server which do not have password protection on its own?
Lets say i have a web server, in its simplicity it doesnt have any authentication - but has R/W rights to some stuff.
Is it possible to have UTM as the front end just for authentication? And then after successfull authentication it would just redirect me to the web service itself?

  • Have you tried setting the 'Backend mode' to "None" and have that not work?

  • I am not sure how to configure this.
    I tried following this guide:
    www.sophos.com/.../120333.aspx

But it seems to miss important parts. I dont see option what Virtual Server the authentication should be applied to.
I have configured Site Path Routing and matched it with the virtual web server and created a path to /myserver.

So when i browse to www.mydomain.com/myserver - i am taken to the User Portal.
When i authenticate - i just have minimum options in the user portal and no way of accessing /myserver website.

I suppose i just dont know how to do it and the guide under the link above is useless.

Please advise how to do this.
  • Hi,

you configure your Reverse Authentication Profile as it is described in the guide you mentioned.
Then you apply that Profile to a site path. Therefore, you edit or create a new site path and you select the Reverse Authentication Profile you created before.

In site path routing, the path, the virtual webserver and the Reverse Authentication Profile are combined.
