How to start, transition from NAT to WAF

Hi guys.

What are you doing when you publish a new service via WAF?

Start with minimal settings and add one option after another and doing manual tests and check the log?

Ask the manufacturer of the software for recommendations? I think this is not very promising.

Assuming the application already runs smoothly per nat.

Best regards

Alex

  • When I started with the UTM, it was all NAT and no proxy. Now we rarely go near NAT and try to keep it as minimal as possible although we can't fully eliminate it.

    For WAF:

    1. Create the virtual server/s

    2. Apply your own filter and add to it bit by bit whilst examining the logs. The aim is to lock it down as much as possible without issue.
