Remove Genio

I keep getting this message:

Adware or PUA Genieo (Adware) has been blocked and listed in Quarantine Manager.

When I open Quarantine Manager I get a list of files but do not have the option to Cleanup and it says manual cleanup is required. Some of these I can see via Finder, others I can't. What should I do next?

OSX 10.11.6

  • Genio can be a pain to remove,

TheSafeMac has a good guide to help with the manual removal: http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/

Basically you need to manaully remove any of the following files if they exist:

    • /Applications/Genieo

    • /Applications/InstallMac

    • /Applications/Uninstall Genieo

    • /Applications/Uninstall IM Completer.app

    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer/

    • ~/Library/Application Support/Genieo/

    • ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist

    • ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist

    • /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist

    • /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist

    • /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist

    • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist

    • /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client

  • Thanks for the advice but I can't find any of these files. The annoying thing is that Sophos keeps flashing the message.
