Is it possible to direct certain traffic over a VPN service?

I have Sophos UTM installed at home, and I would like all torrent traffic including communications with trackers to travel via a VPN to my home internet connection, while all other traffic does not pass via the vpn.

I have done some research but cannot work out how to accomplish this, as most VPN services work for your entire home connection and its either on or off.

I know sophos can route traffic based on source address and port, so I was wondering if it is possible to do this for only a certain type of traffic?

Thanks

  • I'm not seeing your scenario, Dominic.  If you're talking about configuring a site-to-site VPN that routes only specific traffic out the tunnel, this is possible,  Where is the client in relation to the UTM andwhat are the two endpoints of the VPN tunnel?

  • Hi,

Sorry what I'm meant was all torrent traffic to be routed over a secure vpn service such as tunnelbear to mask my public IP.

  • I don't know what tunnelbear is, but if it requires the UTM to act as a remote access client, the answer is no.

  • The VPN runs on your computer not on the UTM.

What you would want to do is set up your torrent traffic to run over the vpn with a split tunnel.

Just check google for something like "run torrent over split Tunnel" looks like there are ways to use the windows firewall to do it.
