Add new DHCP option CODE

Hello everyone,

I am using SOPHOS ASG Software last version "9.411-3", and I would like to add 060 option, but I don't found it in the codes list, please kindly confirm the possibility of using this option in my firewall model, because I found a solution for XG version not in SG version.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Jas Man,

it's for autodiscovering WLAN AP "ZN-7100-DE500-G", their appropriate controler use DHCP option 060 for that.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Karim,

as far as I know in this case the DHCP option 60 is only optional to prevent that other DHCP clients will get the information in DHCP vendor option 43.

The DHCP option field 60 should contain the name of the wifi AP, in your case "ZN-7100-DE500-G". And only DHCP clients which send this ID within the DHCP request will get the needed DHCP vendor option 43.

So if you are not able to set DHCP option 60, your wifi AP should work nevertheless.

  • Hi Jas Man,

Of course the AP controller will do the job when it is the DHCP server, but the problem when I put the dhcp server on the sophos, it can't assign an ip adresse to the access point, you think I can use the 143 option ? if so where can I found the Hex vendor code ?

    Thx

  • Hi,

the problem is not that the AP gets no IP address from the UTM. The problem is the missing option 43 (not 143) which tells the AP the IP address of your controller. Option 60 is to filter only, which DHCP request will get the option 43 in the DHCP offer. If not set, every DHCP offer will contain the Information in option 43.

So yes, if your wifi controller and AP uses the option 43 to get in contact, you need to setup the option 43 on the UTM.

I searched for the HEX vendor code for Zcomax but I didn't found any information. Please refer to the documentation or ask the support.
