UTM SMTP Mail Protection - Anti Spam filter insufficient

Hi Community,

I want to bring up this topic as I did not find helpful informations.

I did read about the change to SASI spam filter but there was no real feedback about user reporting less anti spam performance.

Overall myself and the other users did feel an increase of spam coming to the mailboxes in about the last 12 months so I'm not sure if SASI is related to that because i think it is already there for a longer time.

Anyway I was checking some spam mails coming through and I cannot find any spam score stuff in the mail header. Maybe since SASI it is just that:

X-SASI-Probability: 11%
X-SASI-RCODE: 200
X-SASI-Version: Antispam-Engine: 5.1.1, AntispamData: 2023.1.30.190316

I'm missing lines like:

X-Spam-Result: Spam

Now why we think Spam is beeing less filtered. We get mails like this:

So basically spam stuff which is from our view easy to filter and was filtered in the past.

Can somebody confirm our oberservations?
Other than that. Maybe there are some ideas to improve spam filtering again.

Thanks,

Klaus

  • We having the same issue with much more spam in the past months getting through then before. Sophos is doing a really bad job here.

As we are turning away from Sophos Firewall Solutions anyway we are looking at some thirdparty Anti-Spam Cloud solutions like Barracuda or Proofpoint. I costs a little bit more, but they are catching SPAM much better than a Sophos UTM.

  • Hallo Solae,

You might try Sophos Central Email - I've seen several here say it's better than UTM or XG.
