DHCP server for Static IP & VoIP Problems.

Hi, I'm new to Sophos UTM so excuse my newbie questions. I'm coming from a home router with Shibby Tomato so everything is quite different.

I'm trying to setup a basic setup going before I dive into other things. First off is a basic DHCP server. On my old setup, I just added static IP addresses, refresh the DHCP mappings and done. On Sophos it seems a bit more difficult, which I'm okay with as long as it works how I want it to. I want the range from 192.168.1.1-199 to be the 'main' area and 192.168.1.200-254 to be the area where new devices go. Here's how I have it setup. I just want to know if I'm doing it 'correctly'.

Then to make a static IP, I go to IPv4 Lease Table, then Make Static.

Works fine so far, but I have to renew the DCHP lease manually through my Macbook to grab the new IP. Is there a way I can renew it from the web GUI?

TLDR

I'm trying to setup a DCHP server with Static IP's. 192.168.1.1-199 for static mappings, 200-254 for new devices without static mappings yet.

I also cannot see all my devices from the IPv4 Lease Tables and I can't find a way to refresh the DCHP server to grab new leases.

Thank you for any help.

  • Delete the DHCP Server range x.x.x.1 - x.x.x.199.  Anything from 1-199 is reserved and you can use for static IP mappings.

  • Hi, thank you for answering me.

If I delete the x.x.x.1-x.x.x.199 DHCP range, when I set a static IP, it asks me for 'IPv4 DHCP', would I set it to the 'Internal[192.168.1.200 - 192.168.1.254]' or 'No DHCP Server' ?

  • set it to Internal x.x.x.200 - x.x.x.254.  Don't forget to put in the MAC address

    Thanks

  • Hi, Nam, and welcome to the UTM Community!

The DHCP server in UTM does not use Reservations like Windows DHCP.  In UTM, you must not assign static IPs within the (dynamic) range of the DHCP server you define.  This means that when you make a static IP, you must change the IP to something outside the 200-to-254 range.  The next time the device requests an IP, it will get the one you assigned.  Make sense?

    Cheers - Bob
