whats the name of the kernel module driver for 3com509B?

can you post a cat /proc/bus/pci/device started from a other distribution but 3com509B within?

The name of the kernel module is 3c509.
 “cat /proc/bus/pci/device” is empty, 0 bytes, it is nothing inside.

this sounds interesting, because we also use this card here and it works fine.

I just can think 3Com changed the revision and with it the id of the card.
What we need is the PCI-ID of this card, so we can add it to our hardware detection.

You can get this value on two ways. 
do "cat /proc/bus/pci/device " or do "cat /proc/pci".
The files look like empty (0 bytes) but if you use cat, you get the actuall information from the kernel.
The should look like this.
3Com has the vendor ID: 10b7
3c905B has the pci ID: 9055, 9058, 905a.

If you don't find it, just post this information here or send it by email.

By the way, is it a Dell computer?
I have heard someting about OEM those cards for Dell.
Dell Vendor ID: 1028

Sorry for delay, but I just change the network cards with 3com509. I use an old computer, no Dell, with 3com509 from production 1995, rev A. The installation was OK, now I trying to discover what reports I can print. I will send you an update.

Bad news... I think that you are going to have problems using the 509B card, as it is ISA... I do not think that this distro supports anything by PCI cards at this point.

I just bought 2 network cards 3C905C-TX (10/100 PCI). The firewall discovered the cards but after installation I cannot ping the interface from another computer. I tried from console to ping another computer from LAN, but the same problem and and I receive this message:

Ok, I understood 3C509 ISA is not supported but 3C905..??? Or which network card is supported? (I all ready spent 150$)

Are you sure that the computer from which you are pinging is attached to the right interface on the firewall ?

Try switching the cable onto the other nic.
