DMZ stands for "DeMilitarized Zone" this is where you commonly find systems such as: -web server -mail server -ftp server
The reason for keeping these in the DMZ is that any service you run on your network, is a potential entry point for an attacker.
By keeping your internal network seperate from the machines in your DMZ, you reduce the risk of your internal network being compromised should one of the hosts in your DMZ be compromised.
That is about as simple as it can be explained, I hope it helps [:)]
I'm kind of in a bind machine wise (wish I could get Astaro going on my P75) and I think trying to connect to my existing firewall/server/router is causing me greif.
Anyway what's bugging me is the
just doesn't make any sense. Logic says it should be something like
The main thing is that it seems my Astaro box should be dalrun.com but that won't be accepted (I can live with Astaros' hosts file naming all interfaces the same).
good luck getting it going on a p75, I had it going on a p120 with 64Mb of RAM, and it was unbearably slow. I would like to see an entirely command line based version of astaro to make it a bit easier for those of use who would like to use an older/slower machine. mabye something menu based using the dialog package? or even better, something strictly command line that emulates IOS [:)]
Well its not like we're going to need the admin stuff every day and it should be plenty of machine for what it needs to do on a daily basis.
Gert,
Thanks, I am making progress (swaping hard drives and cables for now). I'll take the discussion back to the support forum but first a comment on my post above. However illogical it seemed firewall.dalrun -> dalrun.com is working with http and mail (I accessed http://dalrun.com/ from the outside and got mail from one of the lists I'm on).
